Creating Proposals

Proposals are the backbone of decision-making in LumosDAO, allowing members to submit ideas, suggestions, or actions for the community to vote on. Creating a proposal on LumosDAO is straightforward, and the platform offers several features to ensure transparency and community engagement throughout the process. Here’s how you can create a proposal on LumosDAO:
1. Access the Proposal Creation Tool
Step: Navigate to the lower section of the DAO details page close to the "Proposals, Comments and Delegates" section in your DAO’s dashboard and click on the "Create Proposal" button.
Benefit: This centralized tool allows you to initiate the proposal creation process, ensuring that all proposals are organized in one place for the community to access.
2. Draft Your Proposal
Step: Provide a clear and concise title for your proposal, followed by a detailed description outlining the purpose, goals, and expected outcomes. You can also attach supporting documents or links for further context.
Benefit: A well-written proposal ensures that your idea is communicated to DAO members, increasing the chances of engagement and support.
3. Select the Voting Parameters
Step: Choose the appropriate voting system for your proposal. LumosDAO supports multiple voting mechanisms such as token-based voting, weighted voting, quadratic voting, and more. You will also need to set parameters like the voting duration and any required thresholds for passing.
Benefit: Tailoring the voting parameters allows you to structure the decision-making process in a way that aligns with the proposal's significance and community dynamics.
4. Submit the Proposal
Step: Once the proposal is drafted and voting parameters are set, submit the proposal for review. Depending on your DAO's configuration, there may be a minimum threshold of $LUMOS tokens required to submit a proposal.
Benefit: Ensuring that proposals require some token commitment helps filter out spam and ensures that only serious proposals are submitted.
5. Admin Approval Process
Step: Before proposals can be made available for voting, they go through an admin approval process. During this stage, designated administrators review the proposal to ensure it aligns with the DAO's goals, guidelines, and governance framework. Once approved, the proposal is released to the community for voting.
Benefit: The admin approval process acts as a quality control mechanism, ensuring that only well-structured and relevant proposals reach the voting stage. This helps streamline governance by avoiding unnecessary or misaligned proposals and maintaining the integrity and focus of the DAO's decision-making process.
Step: Once a proposal passes the admin approval process, it is made public for community review. Members can discuss the proposal using the "Comments" feature on the LumosDAO platform or in forums, sharing their insights, concerns, or suggestions. After the discussion phase, the proposal moves into the voting period, where members can cast their votes according to the voting system in place (e.g., token-based, quadratic, etc.).
Benefit: Combining community review with the voting process promotes transparency and inclusivity. Open discussions allow members to fully understand the proposal, fostering thoughtful deliberation before casting their votes. This process ensures that voting decisions are informed and reflect the collective will of the community.
7. Proposal Outcome
Step: Once the voting period concludes, the outcome is automatically calculated based on the chosen voting mechanism. If the proposal passes, it is implemented according to the specified actions.
Benefit: The automation of proposal outcomes ensures efficiency and prevents delays in executing the community’s decisions.

8. Execution of Approved Proposals
Step: For proposals that pass, the necessary actions (such as changes to governance rules, fund allocation, or smart contract deployment) are executed either automatically or through manual intervention by authorized DAO members.
Benefit: This ensures that the will of the community is put into effect, promoting trust and accountability within the DAO.
9. Proposal Tracking and History
Step: LumosDAO maintains a complete history of all proposals, including their outcomes, votes, and any associated actions. This is accessible to all members for review at any time.
Benefit: The proposal history creates a transparent and immutable record of governance activity, reinforcing the decentralized nature of the DAO.
Creating proposals on LumosDAO is a critical mechanism for engaging with the community and driving the DAO’s growth. By following these steps, members can efficiently propose ideas and ensure that decisions are made democratically and transparently.
